Newsletter October 2016

Hello Idaho Oral Health Alliance members and supporters!

One of the strongest messages our board of directors gleaned from your responses to our 2016 IOHA Communication Survey was your desire to receive more updates from us so you can be better informed of the work that the IOHA is doing to bring optimal oral health to Idahoans. We hope you find the following informative and helpful. Any questions? Just contact Executive Director, Jennifer Wheeler, at info@idahooralhealth.org

Mission and Initiatives:

As you might recall, we redefined our mission statement earlier this spring. Our new IOHA mission is to: Lead collaborative efforts to bring optimal oral health to Idahoans through education, advocacy, and program development. To this end, the board voted to continue leading our Healthy Me is Cavity-Free Collaborative that is charged with establishing education and prevention efforts in preventing dental caries in the zero to three-year-old age group through the education of caregivers of these children. Click here for Healthy Me information.

We also adopted a new multi-year initiative that positions the IOHA as the leader of oral health integration into primary care in Idaho. We’ve found great partners in the Idaho Primary Care Association (IPCA) and the Idaho Health and Wellness Collaborative for Children (IHAWCC). Both share the same vision of oral health integration and are working hard with their respective constituents. Our participation in the Idaho Healthcare Coalition of the Statewide Healthcare Innovation Plan (SHIP) continues, we have recruited Oral Health Representatives for five SHIP regions, and we have created two new ad hoc board committees. One is working on an awareness campaign for our oral health colleagues and the other is exploring the opportunities for a dentist referral network available to our medical colleagues.
